Wheel Fitment Help

As usual, I purchased something before I completely understood it. I entered the info for my original wheel and then for the one I've ordered. I know the tire change is okay, but I'm not sure if the offset difference would put too much strain on the suspension. Also, I've since discovered that the 16"x6.5" full size spare that comes with the car has an offset of 50mm. Any help is appreciated.

*Order has yet to ship, so I still have time to make changes.

Tire Rack and Discount Tire both take offset into account in their databases. I would look your car up on their sites, browse thru the wheels they say will fit, and make note of the range of available offsets.

It varies from car to car, but in general going to a wider wheel calls for a slightly lower offset, while going to a narrower wheel calls for a slightly higher one. If the 16x6.5" spare you have is +50, you should try to be no more than 3mm off in either direction...+41 is going to be too low.

Unless the wheel is big enough that you're going to hit the outer wheel arch, this shouldn't cause a fitment issue...the issue is that if the weight is distributed differently on the hub you're going to be putting more strain on the hub and wheel bearings.

It's only a 10 mm difference from stock and it's really nothing to worry about

Fitment wise you'll be fine. Yes it may put slightly more strain on the wheel bearings(not the whole suspension just the bearings) but you are not doing what I would call a drastic change and I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it. Bearings are designed for much higher load that what you will be putting on it. 90% of the time wheel bearings fail is because of contamination and not because of excess load.

What you are doing is really no different than adding 10mm wheel spacers to stock wheels.

Don't worry about it. Most of the negative consequences are 'offset' (see what I did there?) by the width. My it's-just-about-bedtime-sleepy-head-"math" says you're losing 10-15% scrub radius, which is a "major" contributor to steering/suspension stress. Also, I'm an "engineering master genius", so you know I'm "right".
